About Us
Crane Creek Ranch consists of 1400+ acres of pasture land and hills in Roseburg, Oregon. Due to the mild climate of our area, our sheep are able to graze year-round. We believe in producing high-quality lamb for our community. Not only does our lamb have a delicious flavor, but it is raised to a high standard. We care for our sheep and want every stage of their life to be as low-stress as possible. We achieve this through consistent routine and taking our time when handling the sheep. While our border collie companions assist us with moving our flock from pasture to pasture, our older ewes know the routine and their shepherd’s voice when calling them through the gate to fresh feed. We believe in being good stewards of the land and the sheep we care for. We rotate several groups and give our pastures adequate time to regrow. These practices give our flock a healthy, happy life.
The breeds we have in our main flock are Dorset, Suffolk and Hampshire cross. We have recently added the Australian White breed into our flock. A hair sheep breed that is known for amazing flavor, with higher levels of omega 3s compared to other breeds.
In the winter-bare months, we feed haylage from our ranch that we bale in the early summer. We offer free-choice minerals that are made specifically for the needs of our ranch. Our lambs are never fed grain. We have developed our pastures with a complimenting selection of grasses and legumes that our lambs thrive on. During the shorter days of winter, our older lambs are supplemented with high quality alfalfa sourced locally from Silver Lake, Oregon. Due to the variety of breeds our flock has, our lambs finish out between 120-140 pounds on average. The average age we process our lambs is 7-10 months.
Our team at Crane Creek Ranch is family. After early morning coffee and conversation, we get to work doing what we love to do, every day, all year long. We are honored our lamb is being enjoyed by our community. From all of us at Crane Creek Ranch, thank you.
